Men's Health Clinic
Research consistently shows that men are less likely than women to seek medical help when they need it. Whether it’s due to a busy work schedule, concerns about wasting a doctor’s time, or discomfort with certain types of examinations, many men tend to delay or avoid visiting their GP or other healthcare professionals.
Cultural expectations around masculinity often play a role as well. The belief that men should “tough it out” or “get on with it” can lead to serious health conditions being overlooked or untreated — sometimes until it’s too late.
This reluctance to engage with healthcare doesn’t just affect men individually. It can also create tension within households, especially when partners or family members express concern and encourage medical attention, only to be ignored.
Men’s health is a serious issue. Increasing awareness, promoting open conversations, and challenging outdated stigmas — particularly around mental health — are key to improving outcomes. Regular check-ups, early detection, and proactive care can make a significant difference.
Prioritising your health isn’t a sign of weakness — it’s a smart, responsible choice that benefits not just you, but the people who care about you.
Why was the Men’s Health Clinic created?
At Hinckley and Bosworth Medical Alliance, we recognise the urgent need to address the men’s health crisis in our local community. Building on our successful Enhanced Access service and strong partnerships with local practices, we’ve launched dedicated Men’s Health Clinics designed to break down the common barriers that prevent men from seeking medical support.
Here’s what you can expect from our clinics:
-
Male GP Guaranteed - Every appointment is with a male clinician, so you can feel more at ease discussing personal or sensitive issues.
-
Discreet and Confidential Booking - Our simple self-booking system is quick, private, and confidential — no need to speak to anyone unless you want to.
-
Flexible Appointment Times - We offer evening and weekend appointments, making it easier to fit healthcare around your schedule.
-

Dr. Abdul Ismail
I have been a qualified GP since 2019 working across 2 surgeries in Leicestershire. I also have a role as clinical supervisor to both medical students and registrars. I regularly examine at the Leicester medical school. In addition, I am an appraiser for the midlands. I have an interest in men’s health and being a man myself enables me to relate to these issues on a personal level.
Dr. Ashley Brown
I am a GP based at Castle Mead Medical Centre with a special interest in men’s health, particularly issues around ‘waterworks’ and prostate health. I work closely with local urology services at University Hospitals of Leicester and the new Hinckley Diagnostic Centre to help improve access and care for these common concerns. I am also involved in medical education through my work with the University of Leicester. Outside of work, you’ll most likely find me at a local parkrun — hope to see you there.
