Enhanced Access

Hinckley & Bosworth Medical Alliance Ltd is proud to offer Enhanced Access services to patients across the Hinckley & Bosworth Locality that are registered at one of our Member Practices.

This service is available at The Centre Surgery and Newbold Verdon Medical Practice from Monday to Saturday. We provide a wide range of appointments with various healthcare professionals, including General Practitioners (GPs), Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), and Health Care Assistants (HCAs).

In addition to general consultations, we offer specialist clinics such as blood tests, smear tests, and contraceptive implant and coil fittings. We are continually reviewing and improving our services to ensure we provide the best possible care and clinic options for our patients.

Evening and Weekend Appointments

GP Appointments

Our GP’s are highly trained doctors who diagnose and treat a wide range of health conditions. They provide expert medical advice, manage long-term illnesses, and coordinate your overall care.

What can I see a GP for?

You can see a GP for any new or ongoing health concerns, including physical or mental health issues. GPs can assess your symptoms, provide diagnoses, prescribe medication, and refer you to specialist services if needed.

When can I see a GP?

Our GP clinics are currently held:

  • Monday - Friday 18:30 - 20:00.
  • Saturday 08:00 - 17:00.

Nurse Appointments

Our skilled nurses support your health with routine checks and managing ongoing conditions. They’re here to help with many common healthcare needs, offering personalised care and advice.

What can I see a nurse for?

You can book an appointment with one of our Practice Nurses for a wide range of health services, including:

  • Wound care
  • ECG’s
  • Cervical Screening Tests (Smear Tests)
  • B12 injections (if prescribed by own GP)
  • Ear checks
  • Asthma Reviews

When can I see a Nurse?

Our Nurse clinics are currently held:

  • Saturday 08:00 - 17:00.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner Appointments

ANPs are highly trained nurses with advanced qualifications who can examine, diagnose, and treat many of the same conditions as a GP. They can prescribe medication and make referrals if necessary.

When should I book an appointment with the ANP?

You can see an ANP for most health problems that don’t require a GP. This includes infections, minor illnesses, long-term condition reviews, and general health concerns.

Why might I be offered an appointment with the ANP instead of a GP?

Our ANP’s work as part of the same clinical team as the GP’s and are fully qualified to diagnose and prescribe. This helps ensure you’re seen quickly by the most appropriate clinician for your needs.

Contraceptive Services

We offer implant and coil fitting clinics as part of our Enhanced Access services to support your reproductive health and wellbeing. These long-acting, reversible contraception options are safe, effective, and designed to give you greater choice and control over your contraception. Our specially trained clinicians provide confidential advice, fittings, and removals in a comfortable and supportive setting.

Who can fit or remove an implant or coil?

Specially trained nurses or GPs carry out implant and coil fittings and removals in a safe, confidential environment.

How do I book an appointment?

We require a referral from your GP practice for implants and coils. This can be arranged through your GP practice reception. You may be asked to speak to a clinician first to discuss your options and ensure the right appointment type is booked. Once we have received your referral you will be added to our waiting list and be contacted VIA SMS/Telephone to book your appointment.

I've never had a coil before, what can I expect?

Please read the attached coil leaflet below which explains the different types of coils, how one is fitted and also the risks.

Ear Wax Removal

As part of our Enhanced Access services, we offer ear syringing clinics to help safely remove excess earwax that may be causing discomfort, hearing difficulties, or other issues. Our trained healthcare professionals provide this service in a gentle and effective way.

What is ear syringing?

Ear syringing (or ear irrigation) is a procedure used to remove a build-up of earwax that may be causing discomfort, hearing loss, or other symptoms. Warm water is gently flushed into the ear canal to help clear the wax safely.

Do I need to prepare before my ear syringing appointment?

Yes. We recommend using olive oil or ear drops (available from your pharmacy) for 5–7 days before your appointment. This softens the wax and makes the procedure safer and more effective.

For more information, read our Ear Syringing leaflet below.

Can anyone have ear syringing?

Ear syringing may not be suitable for everyone. It is not recommended if you’ve had ear surgery, a perforated eardrum, or ongoing ear infections. If this applies to you, please speak to your GP or nurse for alternative options.

Can I have microsuction instead?

We currently do not offer microsuction. Our service provides ear syringing (irrigation) only.

If microsuction is your preferred method of earwax removal, you may wish to contact a local pharmacy, private clinic, or ear care service that provides this procedure.

How do I book an appointment for ear syringing?

We require a referral from your GP practice for ear syringing. This can be arranged through your GP practice reception. You may be asked to speak to a clinician first to discuss your symptoms. Once we have received your referral you will be added to our waiting list and be contacted VIA SMS/Telephone to book your appointment.

Blood Tests

We offer blood test appointments as part of our Enhanced Access service to help monitor your health and ongoing treatment. Clinics are available midweek from 7:00–8:00am and on weekends from 8:00am–1:30pm, providing convenient options to suit your schedule.

Can I request a blood test appointment myself?

Blood test appointments must be requested by a clinician at your GP surgery before you can book a slot. This ensures that tests are necessary and appropriate for your care.

If you think you need a blood test, please discuss this with your GP or nurse first. Once requested, you can then book an appointment through reception at your practice.

Please note: If you are attending for a blood test during Enhanced Access, your GP practice must have created a blood test form in advance and saved it to your medical record. We are unable to undertake blood tests without a form.

How do I book a blood test?

You can book a blood test appointment through your GP practice reception.

How will I get my results?

Results are usually sent back to your registered GP within a few days. You can access them through the NHS App, online patient services, or by contacting your practice reception.

Pharmacist Appointments

Our Clinical Pharmacist supports patients with medication reviews focused on lipid management and DOAC (blood-thinning) therapy. They ensure treatments are safe, effective, and tailored to each patient. All consultations are carried out by telephone for convenience, allowing patients to discuss their medication from home while still receiving expert advice and support.

What does the Clinical Pharmacist do?

The Clinical Pharmacist reviews medications to make sure they are safe and effective. They focus on managing cholesterol and anticoagulation (blood-thinning) treatments, adjusting doses where necessary and offering guidance to patients.

What is a lipid review?

A lipid review looks at your cholesterol levels and overall cardiovascular health. The pharmacist may suggest lifestyle changes or medication adjustments to help reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke.

What is a DOAC review?

A DOAC (Direct Oral Anticoagulant) review ensures that your blood-thinning medication is working correctly, remains safe for you, and is at the right dose for your condition.

Why have I been invited to see the Clinical Pharmacist instead of my GP?

The pharmacist is a qualified expert in medicines and works as part of the practice team. Seeing the pharmacist allows you to get specialist advice about your medications while freeing up GP time for other medical concerns.

When can I speak to a Pharmacist?

Appointments are available each Saturday between 08:00 - 17:00, with additional sessions offered on selected weekdays.

GP Appointments for Men

Our Men’s Health Clinic offers dedicated appointments with a male GP, providing a comfortable and confidential space to discuss men’s health concerns. All the GP’s working in the clinic have a special interest in Men’s health. Appointments can be easily booked online for your convenience.

How do I book an appointment?

  1. Visit the Men’s Health section of our website HERE.
  2. Review all the information carefully to ensure you understand what the service offers.
  3. Complete the appointment request form with your details.
  4. Once submitted, you’ll receive a link via mobile to book an appointment directly with a male GP.

Can I have a general health check?

The Men’s Health Clinic allows you to book a GP consultation for non-urgent men’s health concerns and is not a routine NHS health check. Tests like bloods can be arranged if needed but aren’t automatically done at the appointment
