Active Practice Walks

Many of Our GP Practices Are Now Active Practices

We’re pleased to share that many of our member GP practices are now recognised as Active Practices. This means they have committed to supporting both patients and staff to move more and sit less as part of everyday life.

The Active Practices Charter, created by the Royal College of GPs and Sport England, is designed to inspire GP surgeries to promote physical activity in simple, practical ways. It’s a fun and achievable framework that helps practices introduce small but meaningful changes—because when it comes to improving health, movement really is the best medicine.

What Does This Mean for Patients?

  • Being an Active Practice means your GP surgery may:

  • Encourage small lifestyle changes to help you be more active.

  • Share tips to reduce long periods of sitting.

  • Provide information about local exercise groups and activity classes.

  • Promote opportunities that support both physical and mental wellbeing.

  • Many practices are also taking steps to support staff wellbeing—because a healthier team can provide the best possible care.

By adopting the Active Practices Charter, GP surgeries across our area aim to make physical activity a natural, accessible part of daily life for everyone. If you’d like ideas on how to get started, or want recommendations for local exercise opportunities, just ask at your practice next time you visit.
